Tae kwon do is well known for its kicking techniques. There are different ways of delivering the powerful Tae Kwon Do kicks, these include - statically on the spot, moving forward into the opponent, moving backward or withdrawing, dodging left or right, jumping over or at the opponent, jumping away, jumping past (to the side), dropping whilst kicking, flying, kicking whilst being held, kicking whilst grabbing an opponent, and kicking from the ground.  Each kick can, in the main be delivered in these ways.  These dynamic method of attack is what makes Tae Kwon Do such as powerful Martial Art.

Each type of kick can be further broken down to include:
snapping type kicks, use little body movement, uses the knee to deliver a fast whipping like extension of the foot, toes, heel, or shin into he target
thrusting type kicks, used where the attacking tool is delivered into the target in a penetrative manner, using the heel, ball of the foot, side-edge of the foot the energy is generated by a combination of hip thrust + knee and body movement - the body may well be marginally off balance at the end of the kick.
circular type kicks, these are where the kick is delivered in a cicular manner usually with a straight leg, in inward or outward arcs, and use the inner sole, or heel, or outer swordfoot.
